The Isle of Man has strict rules on visitor accommodation which means it is a legal requirement for properties accepting visitors to have been inspected and registered by law.
Make sure you can find the registered number, if it isn't a Homestay it maybe a registered holiday home, B&B or Hotel, in which case it will have been inspected by Visit Isle of Man.
Our site features properties that are advertising on the website, however there is also a list of those properties that are registered but do not wish to advertise on the site.
Many hosts advertise their accommodation on Facebook groups and sometimes on platforms such as Airbnb. If you do find one of these properties do make sure that the host discloses their registration number to you, which you can then check back against the list on our site.
When making a booking the host should not ask for more than 20% of the agreed fee at the time of booking, unless it is very close to the start of your trip. The balance should then be collected when you arrive on the island if staying with the hosts, otherwise self catering properties can collect the balance in advance, around 6 weeks is reasonable.
Many visitors are desperate to stay in Douglas, this is obviously where a lot of the action takes place however there is lots happening in other areas too. Check out our blog on where to stay for some inspiration.
